Indy Saints FC submitted its bid to field a team in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) for the 2018 season and beyond. The bid will be considered by the league’s Executive Committee at its next meeting on November 15, 2017.
“I spoke with Sean Jones, the WPSL Executive Director. He reviewed the bid and was complimentary of it,” said Jason Brown, Saints Director of Soccer Operations. “We are excited about this project."
“We talked about fielding a women’s team when we started the Saints last year but we wanted to get a year under our belts first. We wanted a league with a high level of play, established systems and a good brand. The WPSL meets that and we look forward to approval of our application and getting started.” says Chris McGrath, General Manager, Indy Saints FC.
Since the end of the 2017 season, the Saints have maintained communication with their community and the players. Over 150 individuals, male and female, have expressed interest in trying out for the team’s 2018 campaigns.
“We are excited about the opportunity to bring a women’s program under the Saints banner. Our goal is to provide a high level training and playing environment that will continue the development of our aspiring women’s players,” said Jason Brown. The team remains committed to its men’s team in 2018 and is currently exploring expansion opportunities in different leagues. “There are a lot of moving parts on the men’s side,” said McGrath.
