Purple Reign…Saints Win!
June 3, 2018, Rochester, New York - Indy Saints FC stormed in to Rochester, New York late last night ahead of their contest against Empire United. The Saints fresh off their inaugural match against Steel City FC in Pittsburgh which resulted in many firsts, just not three points. It’s amazing what a night of rest can do!
64 degrees and a steady rain at kick off, could have dampened any teams spirits. However, Hanna Johnson and Lesley Kiesling continued where they left off on Saturday night. Johnson entered the scoring column after connecting a Kiesling pass that developing deep in the Saints half less than a minute into the match.
The match was largely dominated in favor of the Saints throughout much of the contest. Annelie Leitner and Katie Kiolbassa produced strong performances that helped create an afternoon full of opportunities to put some more Saints in the scorers column.
At the 64’ minute mark, Empire United pulled level on a converted PK. Laura Shake, who had a stellar save from the spot the day before, came just short of being 2 for 2 in her efforts. Strong defensive efforts over the next several minutes resulted in to quick counter chances for the Saints.
Those efforts paid dividends on a Holly Logsdon corner kick that saw Elie Weber power the Saints into the win column for the first time in their short history. It can be a best described as a tale of two teams. Calm, cool and collected can best describe the efforts of the squad.
The rain has stopped and the Saints have brought home their first WPSL 3 points.
